The sub-space radio was made possible by the development of crystal technology more than 4000 years ago. While it does not transmit signals from system to system, as a Holocom would, and is more cumbersome than the short-range comlink, the sub-space radio enables nearly instant communication within a single system to a range of approximately 175 AU.

With multiple channels for sound, data and video, the sub-space radio is an invaluable tool communicating to outlaying parts of a star system as well as the next door neighbor. An integrated encryption multiplexer allows the operator to specify their own algorithms, through varying channels and digital sequences, to transmit a coded message. With added upgrades to increase the number of variables, sub-space messages are unbreakable except by the most skilled slicers.
